We take more satisfaction in receiving safety awards than any others. A safe project without any lost-time accidents is a goal on all our projects. Our most recent safety award was the “Safe Contractor of the Year” award by the US Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District for the 1st quarter of FY 2005. In order to earn this award HPA competed against all other contractors within the Mobile District for projects larger than 5 Million in contract value. HPA's "Safety Program" was the best among all the competing contractors.
This award was especially gratifying due to the complicated and high risk challenges of the nominated "Bankhead Lock and Dam" project. This short duration challenging project required removal of two (2)existing 250 ton Miter Gates and replacing with two (2) New 350 ton Miter Gates that were transported to the project location via barge.
Awarded to Harry Pepper & Associates for the year 2000 by the US Army Corps of Engineers for the design-build construction of the $8.5 million Temporary Pump Station 332B located in South Florida. Return to the time-honored approach of the Master Builder, where a single source has absolute accountability for both design and construction. When the citizens of classical Greece envisioned their great temples, public buildings and civil works, master builders were engaged to both design and construct these monumental structures. Master builders accepted full responsibility for integrating conceptual design with functional performance. To assume anything less than complete accountability for delivering a project was unthinkable. Throughout each massive logistical undertaking, they commanded skilled craftsmen, procured time-tested materials, and controlled every aspect of the project. A master builder with the chief architect, engineer and builder molded into one. Enduring structures such as the Parthenon and the Theatre of Dionysus are testimony to an age and a process that are greatly admired, though the process was thought to be virtually abandoned by modern designers and constructors.
